Long Walks

We are a group who meet on the first Tuesday of the month for a 6-7 mile morning walk starting at 10am. apart from two walks in the summer which are slightly longer and include a picnic lunch stop.

All walks are circular with a "banana stop" approximately half way.

The walks programme is organised covering 6 months at a time, April - September and October to March.

Walks are led by a number of group members resulting in a varied programme. The map reference for the start together with parking availability are all on the website.

A reminder email is sent to all members on the long walks contact list detailing the next walk.

Please check with the individual leader if you wish to bring your dog. If bringing your dog it must be on a short fixed lead at all times.

 Summer Programme

April 3rd

Starting at Bledlow SP 778 021 HP27 9PD

A 6.5 mile walk via Holly Green & Horsenden, approx 7 stiles and reasonably flat, may be some muddy bits.

A 6 mile easy, level walk, incorporating the Thames Path from Cookham to Boulters Lock (views of Cliveden), then a streamside path across fields back to Cookham. Park in the free public carpark on the B4447, a continuation of High Street beyond The Crown Inn, on the outskirts of Cookham.

June 5th

The Walk starts at The Whip Inn, Lacey Green, Grid ref: SP 818006.

There is roadside parking by the pub along Pink Road.
The walk goes from Lacey Green across open countryside to Speen, then off past Upper North Dean and Bryant’s Bottom before heading through the wooded landscapes of Hampden Common and Monkton Wood. The final section of the walk follows the Chiltern Way back to Lacey Green. The walk is around 7 miles.

July 3rd

Shiplake and Sonning. A 9 mile picnic walk. Park in Shiplake station car park. Grid Reference SU776797. Post code RG9 3NY.

Please car share. Chiltern Way, Binfield Heath, Sonning Eye, Sonning and follow the Thames Path past Shiplake College Boatyard which would be a good place to have the picnic. Then onwards passing nearby Shiplake Lock and taking in a new section of footpath following a bend in the river with picturesque views over the water to Wargrave before returning to Shiplake. It is a relatively flat walk with only a few stiles. Rosie and Peter Hetherington.

August 7th

Stadhampton. Park on the green near the play area, GR SU605986.

A 6.5 mile River Thame walk to Chiselhampton, Drayton St Leonard and over new footbridge to Newington and Ascott. Flat with some road walking but only a few stiles.

Sept 4th

Highmoor and Greys Court Grid Ref: SU 696 841 Postcode: RG9 5PF

Parking for customers at the Rising Sun, Witheridge Hill, Highmoor, otherwise alongside the green.

7.6 miles, a moderate undulating walk mainly on footpaths, through typical Chiltern woodlands & pastures via Greys Court estate (café and toilets require entrance fee for non-NT members).
